Step 1: Hand Grip & Ball Drop

The first step to perfecting your goal kicking technique is getting the grip right when you hold the ball. If you can't get the grip right then switch to a size 1 Precision and practice holding the ball longer as you drop it towards your foot.

EQUIPMENT YOU NEED:

  • 1x Sherrin Precision football
  • 1x size 1 Sherrin Precision football
  • 1x Chair or bench to sit on to practice your technique

FOCUS POINTS:

Follow the steps below to help improve your technique.

  • Use a size 1 Precision football to practice your grip and control when dropping the ball to foot.
  • Practice having a longer connection with the ball. Don't hold it all the way down to your foot, but hold it a little longer to keep it stable and it'll be more consistent hitting the middle of your foot.
  • So practice dropping the ball over your Knee and turning your wrists down towards your foot, so you are getting the bottom point of the ball to drop onto the middle of your foot.
  • Once you feel confident using the smaller sized ball then switch over to your usual sized Precision football and try this drill again.
